David originally qualified as a Mechanical Engineer, while a sponsored student with The Ford Motor Company. After a couple of years as a design and process engineer, he moved into a more commercial activity within the business. During this time he was a buyer and European Procurement manager, covering categories such as interior trim, forgings and castings, tyres and Fuel injection systems. During this time, he was involved in a number of projects involving ventures with Japanese companies where he developed a passion for their quality approach, one-piece flow, collaborative design and design of experiments.

Following this David worked for Fiat Group. He specifically focused on engine and transmission systems working largely in Modena and Turin. He also took the procurement lead on a global engine programme in a J.V. between Iveco and Cummins. After this he became the European Procurement Manager for the groups Global Logistics. This was an opportunity to achieve significant business benefits though dramatically reducing lead times and improving the tracking and tracing of components on a global basis.

David later undertook senior operational and strategic roles with BTR, Invensys and Pilkington. In each of these roles over the next 15 years he worked globally, with large amounts of time on the ground in Europe, North and South America and Asia. In many ways these roles lead to the development of his international interpersonal skills, managing large teams across the world.

In 2006 David moved into the construction field as Group Procurement Director with Laing ORourke. While this industry has many unique facets, much of the learning and experience from automotive manufacturing was relevant and needed. In a sector where waste and inefficiency had been allowed to go almost unchallenged it was an area full of opportunities. The reduction in variation, specification and sub-contract sources lead to financial, time and safety benefits for the business.

For the last few years David has operated as a Commercial consultant undertaking projects in Utilities, Facilities Management, Hospitality and Manufacturing. His broad business understanding and global experience have enabled him work swiftly and effectively to bring benefits to clients. His personal style has also helped him to become one of the team.
